Альбом «Le Noise» – это результат сотрудничества Нила Янга и музыканта, автора песен и продюсера Даниэля Лануа (Daniel Lanois), известного своей работой с U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, The Neville Brothers и многими другими. Записанный в домашней студии Лануа в Сильверлейке в Лос-Анджелесе, в альбоме «Le Noise» Янг играет на акустической и электро- гитарах с добавлением фирменных звуковых текстур Лануа, создавая один из наиболее захватывающих в звуковом плане альбомов, которые Янг когда-либо записывал. Никакой группы, никаких дополнительных записей, только «человек на скамейке и я, хорошо сделавший свою работу в процессе записи альбома», как выражается Лануа.
Комментируя новый альбом «Le Noise» после его прослушивания в доме Лануа, Los Angeles Times написала: «Что удивительного в «Le Noise», так это то, как он одновременно резюмирует и проявляет своеобразное отношение Янга к музыке, преимущественно только Неил и гитара - его большая белая полнокорпусная электрическая гитара Gretsch, стремительная и животрепещущая в большинстве треков, как бы вьющаяся вокруг отобранных бренчащих акустических инструментов. Всё это записано и усилено – в прямом и переносном смыслах – ключевой звуковой гаммой Лануа, которая огибает вокал и усиливает басовые нотки через инструменты искажения звука, синтезаторы и другие электронные инструменты».
