"Melina Kana"
Melina Kana was born in Thessalonica. She got involved with music while she was a student in Literature. In 1987, while performing in the music scene 'Plato', she met the great composer Stavros Kougjoumtzis and they started working together. Till today she has performed with some of the best Greek composers and singers, like Sokratis Malamas, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Orfeas Peridis, Nikos Papazoglou, Nikos Xidakis. Vangelis Germanos, Haris Alexiou, Kostas Pavlidis, Lizeta Kalimeri, Eleni Tsaligopoulou and others.
DISCOGRAPHY:
1991 - 'Mistika tragoudia': Her first personal album was released in music of Nikos Mamangakis and lyrics of Michalis Ganas.
1992 - 'Tis meras ke tis nihtas': An album of Sokratis Malamas' with lyrics by Yannis Tsatsopoulos and Manolis Rasoulis.
1995 - 'Aromata anti gia naphtalini': An album of Thodoris Papadopoulos and Thanasis Pantelis. That year Kana was met with Dionissis Savopoulos and they performed together in Athens and Thessalonica. A tour in America followed.
1996 - 'Tis agapis gerakaris': An album of Thanasis Papakonstantinou.
In 1997 the critics of Berlin voted the album 'Tis agapis gerakaris' as the best ethnic album of the year. The Municipality of Munich invited Kana to give a concert; she gave another one in Passions Kirche in Berlin (both concerts where sold out). She got excellent reviews. Christof Hermans wrote in "Berliner Morganpost: "A voice full of sensitivity, eroticism and great strength, like angel wings that embellished the Passions Kirche". The same year she took part in a tribute album to Mikis Theodorakis that was released by the string Orchestra of the Municipality of Patras . She also participated in Kostas Kaldaras' album "Tragoudia apo to parathiro" .
1997 - 'Geney erotes': Her fifth personal album was released in music of Stamos Semsis and lyrics of Michalis Bourboulis.
1998 - 'Lafira': Kana's second work with Thanasis Papakonstantinou. In the album ASHKABAD were participated, the important group from Turkmenistan .
1999: Kana featured in Orfeas Peridis' album "Gia pou to vales kardia mou" with the song "I gineka tis erimou" and in Loudovikos ton Anogion album "To ohi apokimithike stin agalia tou ne" .
2000: T he German music company "Network" released the album "Melina Kana - Portrait " . Christian Scholz, founder and director of Network and a guru of world music whose productions have won many Unesco awards, chose Melina Kana to be the new star of his company . The album was an excellent edition, distributed worldwide.
2001: Release of the new album "Melina Kana" in music of Nikos Platanos and Dimitris Psarras and lyrics of Kostas Parisis and Vassilis Gantzos.
2003 : A new album for Melina Kana was released with the title "Fegi aliotika" in music of Thodoris Papadopoulos and lyrics of Smaro Papadopoulou. At the same year Kana participated in Petros Dourdoumpakis' album 'Tifles elpides' singing older songs of his but also the new song "Ti na pistepso".
2005: Kana met some of the most important Greek voices, Dimitris Zervoudakis, Yiota Nega and Maria Spyropoulou, in Manolis Galiatsos' album 'The Wizard's games' (LM036-2). In the album that was released by LIBRA MUSIC, Kana sings the song 'A couple of times'.
