STEREO BLACK (formerly NEW BLACK), the new band fronted by former MACHINE HEAD/SOULFLY guitarist Logan Mader, will make their live debut on Monday, March 8 at The Whisky A Go Go (8901 Sunset Boulevard) in West Hollywood, California.
As previously reported, STEREO BLACK (photo) reportedly sees Logan returning to his heavier roots, and at the same time, incorporating what he has learned from his early days as a guitarist to present. The group, whose lineup is completed by Lucas Banker (guitar), Clyde Shorey (guitar), Jason Evigan (bass, backing vocals) and Christopher Antonopoulis (drums), recently finished mixing a demo in Amsterdam with beatmaster extraordinaire JUNKIE XL and are currently shopping around for a record deal.
STEREO BLACK currently have a total of 13 tracks under their belt, according to a posting on Logan's official web site.
In a market that is oversaturated with processed rock music, finding a band that stands out from the rest can be emphatically compared to finding a needle in a haystack. Music enthusiasts today are starving for a band that is fresh, has its own edge, style and sound. Look no further. STEREO BLACK is now entering the scene. STEREO BLACK is a Los Angeles based band that is comprised of LOGAN MADER (lead vocals), LUCAS BANKER (guitar/backing vocals), CLYDE SHOREY (guitar), JASON EVIGAN (bass/backing vocals) and CHRISTOPHER ANTONOPOULOS (drums). STEREO BLACK, as a band name, is one that just came naturally. Explains LOGAN, "The only thing we had in mind when coming up with a name was to keep it open and not classify us before being heard." STEREO BLACK formed in June 2003 when LUCAS was introduced to LOGAN by a mutual friend. Having common musical interests, LOGAN and LUCAS hooked up (for what was at that time) a writing session. That writing session turned into the first STEREO BLACK song. LUCAS recalls "LOGAN and I got together and there was just instant chemistry. Nine songs poured out in the next six week period. That's when I knew we were meant to be in a band together." LOGAN concurs "After one session with LUCAS, I realized that he and I have a unique and productive writing chemistry. Like he said, the songs just poured out." Over the next several months, the duo continued to collaborate and the union resulted in several tracks being written, all of which were nothing short of haunting lyrics grouped with catchy melodies and heavy hooks. With a demo under their belts within a matter of months, LUCAS and LOGAN casually hung out in LA with a well known producer and played him the rough STEREO BLACK tracks. After hearing the tracks, the producer felt he had something to contribute and was down with mixing and co-producing the STEREO BLACK demo. The producer just so happened to be Amsterdam's beatmaster extraordinaire JUNKIE XL. STEREO BLACK was about to be taken to the next level. In September 2003, LUCAS and LOGAN crossed the pond only to land in Amsterdam, JUNKIE XL's playing field. They had one goal in mind: for JUNKIE XL to add his electronic edge and co-produce the STEREO BLACK demo. The pairing proved magical and the results were amazing. Says LOGAN "When we originally hung out with JUNKIE XL in LA and let him listen to our demo, he felt he had something to contribute. After seeing the final product, he knew all along how he could turn these tracks up a notch…and he did." Shortly thereafter, the STEREO BLACK line-up was solidified when JASON, CLYDE and CHRISTOPHER entered the fold.
